Marine Services Franchises
No items found.Marine Services Franchises information and details.
Providing goods and services to marine vessels is called shipchandling. Shipchandling works very similar to any other service franchise, such as a grocery or equipment franchise; however, the primary customers are large ships, usually those intended for commercial use. Many of these are operated through marine services franchises.
Those who live in coastal regions of the United States, as well as close to the Mississippi River, Great Lakes, or any other bodies of water that are large to support the arrival and departure of freighter ships, oil tankers, or other commercial fishing vessels may want to consider marine services franchises as a business option. These franchises provide goods and services to ships when they are in port, either just after they have arrived or before they leave again. In addition, some of them may provide marine towing for larger vessels, as well as marine equipment repair and service shops.
Anyone wishing to get into such a business would, of course, want to live or relocate to a region of the country where such a franchise would be a viable one. A good knowledge of marine craft, especially large ones, as well as what items are needed to operate and maintain a large vessel is necessary. Someone who has retired from the Navy or Merchant Marines would be a good fit for this type of job; although anyone with enough determination could do it.
A college degree might not be necessary, but familiarity with marine craft, as well as good business tactics, would be a great help in making such a business successful.
