Publication Franchise information and details.

Publication franchises may include or even regional newspapers, but often concentrate on such publications as community newspapers, high school sports newspapers, and magazines or other publications catering to a particular audience, such as senior citizens, or those who work in the financial or health field, or other specific field.

Owning or managing publication franchises can be as complicated as supervising reports, photographers, printers, typesetters, and any others who are involved with publishing work, or may be as simple as a one- or two-person office. Circulation numbers and other factors will usually determine the size of the business.

If a person takes over a business, with all printing and distribution equipment already available, start-up costs may be no more than just the franchise fee itself. If, however, one is starting from the ground up, he may have to find the location, make arrangements to rent or least the building, purchase the equipment, and have it delivered and set up before the first article can even be written much less published.

A degree in journalism or other literary field will be extremely helpful, as will a good working knowledge of business practices. And, again depending on the size of the circulation, region, or population that the publication serves, the owner or manager may find himself never leaving the premises, or may find himself going out, getting a story, taking pictures, and coming back and preparing the story for publication.
